American Legion Post 11 announced winners in the 2024-25 American Legion Flag Essay contest for fifth graders.
The purpose of the state-wide contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the US flag on the part of elementary students. They gain an understanding of flag etiquette and respect for the flag. The contest is coordinated locally by fifth grade social studies teacher Kim Braun.
Winners are presented with a certificate and a small check. The winning essay may be read at the Memorial Day program next May. Lyndsie Goughnour placed first, Samantha Pedersen placed second, and Mila Sebolt placed third.
